From the dedicated hands of Denny Nelson, who for many decades stood as a beacon of commitment to the sport of tournament bass fishing in the upper Midwest, emerges the new and reinvigorated ‘Denny’s Legacy Series.’
As we salute Denny’s unparalleled dedication and his unwavering “fisherman first” approach, Chuck and Michael Hengel are thrilled to introduce a series that pays homage to this legacy while incorporating fresh and innovative changes.
Denny Nelson’s touch points are evident in the heart of the series. Renowned for his fish-friendly, efficient weigh-ins and the seamless check-in process, Denny crafted a tournament experience that prioritized the angler. We pledge to continue these traditions.
Participants can still look forward to the convenience of weigh-ins at Lord Fletcher’s on the Lake and anticipate competing with a group that embodies respect and fierce competitive spirit – hallmarks of Denny’s tenure. This competitiveness will continue to unveil the best bass fisherman in the upper Midwest as it has done in the past.

| 100% Entry Fee Payout: | Reflecting our commitment to the fishing community, we guarantee a complete return of entry fees. Alongside a captivating $5,000 first-place prize each tournament, a clear and guaranteed payout structure is in place for the year. |
| Compact 30-Team Field: | In response to environmental changes within the fishery on Lake Minnetonka, this format ensures a top-tier tournament experience on the waters. For 2024, our field will max out at 30 teams. |
| Invitational Format: | Early entry for the season will be invite-only. Be on the lookout for an email from us regarding registration! |
| New Team of the Year process: | All teams are automatically enlisted in the Team of the Year competition, fostering a season of camaraderie and spirited competition. Within our new payout structure, there will be an increase in prizes for the team of the year awards. |
| Enhanced Social Media Coverage: | An extensive increase in social media coverage will begin this year. We hope to increase tournament awareness and highlight our anglers professionally. There will also be an increase in communication with our anglers, with mass text & email chains being constructed. |
| New Award System: | Along with returning 100% of the entry fees to the anglers, we have an incredible lineup of trophies and plaques planned for this year. You might need to increase the size of your trophy rooms! |
| Yearly Adjustments: | Expect new and innovative changes to the tournament every year. We aren’t ruling anything out- we will explore tournaments on other lakes, a tournament of champions, different field sizes, and other exiting events in the future. |
| Speedy Results: | We guarantee results from each tournament to be posted within 24 hours! |
